It’s been almost a month since the new Libre Wave website went live, along with Rhapsody v3.

Aside from a few minor hiccups, it’s mostly been a smooth transition. Thank you to everyone who helped me solve a couple of the problems that came up.

Rhapsody 2

One of the main issues was that more people than I expected still had libraries in the old LWZ format, including some third party libraries.

Getting these working with Rhapsody v3 was a bit of a pain and there were also a few minor GUI issues when running these older libraries in v3.

To solve that, I’ve put out a new version of Rhapsody v2 (2.6.0). If you’re using instruments supplied in LWZ format, this is the version you should use.

It can be installed alongside Rhapsody v3 and keeps its instruments and settings completely separate, so the two can coexist happily.

To simplify things further, I’ve removed the integrated account system and downloader from v2. So you need to install your LWZ libraries using the manual installer. This also future proofs v2 for when the legacy Libre Wave server is eventually shut down.

Rhapsody 3

Rhapsody v3 is also receiving regular updates. Most of the recent changes are behind the scenes and help with the development of new instruments, but there are a few quality of life improvements too.

• macOS versions back to 10.14 are now fully supported.
• Fixed a false “missing samples” error that appeared for some instruments.
• Tidied up the MIDI Learn and Macro context menu.

Not all of the new features are available just yet, but they’ll be included in the next release, coming soon.

Instruments

I’m continuing to update older instruments and make them available for Rhapsody v3. The Shepherd’s Flute and Lyrical Bansuri will be ready later this month, with Modern Bodhrán following shortly after.

I’m also refining some existing libraries. Bell and Bone and Emerald Flutes are both getting enhancements to their legato and attack response.

After that, I’ll be releasing a brand new hammered dulcimer library, recorded by Nuno Silva.

Summary

With the migration to the new website complete and Rhapsody v3 taking shape nicely, I’m now in a good position to focus on creating more libraries.
